Only thing new here is that Trump’s disdain for US intelligence and love of adversaries is leaking from the White House. According to CNN
Trump has privately said that foreign spies can damage relations with their host countries and undermine his personal relationships with their leaders, the sources said. The President "believes we shouldn't be doing that to each other," one former Trump administration official told CNN.
In addition to his fear such foreign intelligence sources will damage his relationship with foreign leaders, Trump has expressed doubts about the credibility of the information they provide. Another former senior intelligence official told CNN that Trump "believes they're people who are selling out their country."
Yeah, we can trust those other leaders. And, if we stop spying on them, then they will (not) stop spying on us. Idiot or asset, what’s the difference? With Trump it seems to be idiot and asset anyway.
Trump apparently doesn’t like his gut being contradicted by truth and facts determined by hard working intelligence assets risking their lives for the United States and Western democracies. Plus, they just make him read more, i.e. anything. Being outed as Putin’s asset must also worry him. As far as Trump is concerned losing an asset from Russia just means that his longstanding ties to the Kremlin are that much harder to illuminate.
Spies damage relationships with foreign leaders, says the man who has no problem crapping all over long established alliances.
