As a woman and a feminist, I am very happy that we have many good choices, both male and female, this election season. Hat tip to Hillary Clinton for breaking the glass ceiling on presidential nominations, so it seems normal now to have so many women running.
But while I supported Hillary 2016 and would have been thrilled if she had been our first female president, in 2020 I am all in for a strong ally of women, Beto O’Rourke. And I’m not alone-- Beto has a strong base of women supporters.
After last quarter, Open Secrets analyzed percentage of female donors (only those over $200 have itemized information to be the data set) for each candidate www.opensecrets.org/...
% of donors who are women
Gillibrand 56%
Harris 53%
O’Rourke 52%
Warren 50%
Klobuchar 47%
Booker 45%
Biden 40%
Sanders 38%
Buttigieg 37%
With Gillibrand dropping out of the race, Beto ranks second in percentage of women donors in this analysis among all candidates, and quite a bit higher than other male candidates.
Beto's support from women extends to his campaign staff where he not only has a woman (Jen O'Malley Dillon) in charge but women are earning more than men and a majority of senior managers are women.
The day before the debate in Texas last week, Beto also released a list of endorsement of many female leaders from Texas www.salon.com/...
“Women, particularly women of color, are the heart of the Democratic party. They continue to lead on overcoming every challenge we face — from gun violence and the maternal mortality crisis to an inequitable education system and an economy that leaves too many families behind — and I'm grateful to have them at the forefront of our campaign to fight for everyone in this country," O'Rourke said
Beto is a strong supporter of reproductive choice. Below are the highlights of his plan and here is the link to his detailed plan betoorourke.com/…
Outline
In our Daily Kos Beto for Democracy group, of the members who have mentioned their gender, we are mostly women. As one of our male members put it in a response to a Beto Boys dig in another diary comment thread, “the males are outnumbered” in our group. This is interesting in light of the fact that the demographic statistics I've read about Daily Kos is that the site skews male.
For non-supporters, please remember before being tempted to use a label such as Beto Boys or Bros to describe Beto supporters, there is a good chance you are wrong in your gender assumptions.
My support is based on released policies, character, and who I think is making the best case for the issues regardless of gender or race, and in this primary Beto is at the head of the pack for me.
