While there are some I’d wish it on (I’m looking at you Roy Moore), political fundraising calls (aka call time) is a miserable practice that political candidates are forced to engage in. That is unless you are my opponent and the NRA sends over a big old check for $200,000 so you are literally off the call time hook.
I suspect most of us would agree that campaign finance reform is necessary. What you may not know is that candidates spend hours on the phone most days raising money.
Oh the other things we could doing other things with that time! Helpful things. Practical things. Things that pertain to people, issues, and problems. Instead, our political system requires candidates to generate $$$ so can have a voice in the wilderness of political messaging.
As we move into the final weeks of election season in Virginia, I’m not going to call you and ask you for a donation. I’m writing you instead so I can get back to my campaign to bring truly beneficial representation to my district, gun safety to Virginia, and the Equal Rights Amendment to the nation. Isn’t that a better use of everyone’s time?
My story starts here but it’s just the beginning. My name is Beverly Harrison. Please say it everywhere you can. I am running for the District 15 seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
