To avoid duplicating other members’ well-written pieces, I refer readers to the following for newsworthy facts on the current Impeachment Investigation:
Hunter’s “Shakedown” Diary summarizing how trump violated the US Constitution and the possible impeachment charge against AG Barr/
First Amendment’s Diary about trump’s disbelief after his call with Speaker Pelosi failed to stop the impeachment inquiry.
And Aldous J Pennyfarthing’s Diary on a GOP Senator admitting releasing the transcript was trump’s “yuuuge” mistake.
After reading all of the above, and watching this fast-moving story on TV, it became clear to me that Speaker Pelosi is far from what her critics characterized as “spineless,” and worse, because she did not capitulate to previous impeachment demands by certain Democratic members of the House.
On the contrary, it appears Speaker Pelosi was waiting for ironclad evidence of a trump crime that even the Senate could not deny: trump clearly violating the US Constitution. And now we have this evidence in writing plus an eyewitness, the Whistleblower.
Frankly, before trump’s call to the Ukraine president came to light, I’ve been vacillating between “Impeach, now!” and “What good is impeachment if the Senate will fail to act?”
Though I have no proof of my theory, it seems to me Pelosi intentionally led trump to believe she would never start formal impeachment proceedings.
I strongly suspect Madame Speaker lulled him into believing he had nothing to fear from her or the House of Representatives. If I am correct, Pelsoi laid a well-thought-out trap.
Like all criminals, trump believed his ability to escape conviction on prior crimes proved he was coated with Teflon.
As a result, and as criminals will do, trump escalated his crimes, assured by his enablers that as president he could do whatever he wanted no matter how illegal it may be.
With his lapdog, AG Barr, in place, he believed he had his Roy Cohn-like mafia lawyer to cover his ever-escalating crimes against our country.
And I suspect he was increasingly emboldened because he also bought into the idea that Nancy Pelosi was “spineless.”
Evidence supporting my theory: after trump’s call to Speaker Pelosi, he believed he was safe to release the transcript of his extortion scheme against the Ukraine president.
Oh, how I wish we had a transcript of his phone call TO SPEAKER PELOSI.
Just imagine for a moment how Pelsoi had to play her cards to get him to release the damning transcript.
Did she convince him she was holding a losing hand?
Did she capitalize on his blatant ignorance of the US Constitution to lull him into believing he had not committed an impeachable crime?
Or, did she leverage his yuuuuge blind spot: his blatant misogyny.
I suspect Nancy Pelosi applied all of the above in her call with the Orange Occupant. And, playing him so perfectly, the moron released the transcript.
Thank you, Speaker Pelosi. You’ve played him well. And as an extra bonus, you have proved your critics wrong.
