The House Intelligence Committee is going to work through recess Chairman Schiff told Politico. "We'll be here for part of the week, yes, he said. "We're going to be trying to schedule hearings, witness interviews, we'll be working on subpoenas and document requests. We'll be busy." Presumably, he means the next two weeks, since the House isn't scheduled to come back until mid-October. They will be gone at least Monday and Tuesday of next week for members who observe Rosh Hashanah, but will return after and possibly have a hearing on Friday, though details on that have not been finalized.
"We want to know who in the White House knew what and when," said Rep. Jim Himes, a senior member of the committee, alluding to that hearing. The committee is determining whether it can have the whistleblower testify and whether that hearing could be in public. It's also pursuing the full inspector general's report on the whistleblower's complaint, and presumably, testimony from the IG.
Three committee members told Politico that they expect the committee to be issuing subpoenas for documents and witnesses in order to corroborate the whistleblower's claims. As if every tweet out of Trump isn't corroboration enough. But those are threads that need to be pulled. Including the big thread of what Trump's people have been hiding in that secret server and just how deep in it all is Attorney General William Barr. Just for a start.
The enormity of impeachment should bring the entire House back mid-week, but this is far better than nothing. Now that Trump is on the ropes and clearly feeling the stress, they can't let up.
