So I am trying to watch this Global Citizen event on MSBNC. But I’m not sure what it’s about. That’s probably because I am muting all the speeches and just listening to the music. Alicia Keyes was awesome. But there is not enough music. Plus it is sponsored by Citibank, the same people who charge me outrageous interest rates on my credit card. Now they have Queen on. How can there be Queen without Freddie Mercury? It’s like Led Zeppelin without Jimmie Page. Cream without Eric Clapton. The Beatles without John Lennon or Paul McCartney. What’s the point?
I admit I am distracted. The *resident is trying to subvert our democracy and the Democrats have seemingly got it together to try to stop him. That’s about all the politics I can stand.
I’m sure when I turn down the audio that they are discussing important stuff like climate change. I am totally against climate change, like everyone I know. We have to do something about it. Greta Thunberg, a 16 year-old girl from Sweden, seems to be the only one who has a clue. But she is not at the Global Citizen event. Perhaps she realized it was sponsored by Citibank.
We have reached a turning point. Climate change is a thing that’s not going away. Soon corporations will be selling us solutions to the problems they have created, while at the same time ensuring that the problems don’t go away, so that the solutions always have a market. It is not unlike the pharmaceutical companies who will sell you a drug to combat the side-effects from the first drug they sold you.
Megacorporations will have two sides, one side which markets to wingnuts and one side which claims to be liberal.
And it’s not just climate change, A single corporation will sell wingnuts their bullets, while a subsidiary will sell bulletproof backpack. Both sides will have politicians in their pocket.
