I am exhausted.
One of my several physical conditions is sleep apnea. I get by napping during the day. My first nap in a week was Friday. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I have been overwhelmed.
The Federal Reserve tells us that 40% of people couldn’t handle an unexpected $400 expense. In the last 5 or 6 months I’ve had four of those followed by the transmission going out on my car the day after I spent $350 for a new water pump. I didn’t even have a chance to see if the water pump fixed the overheating problem. I still don’t know.
I have been overwhelmed.
I contacted vetwife and asked for help. She is my hero. It hasn’t been easy for either of us. When it came time to transfer funds from her advocacy group she found that even with my bank account number she couldn’t deposit cash in my account. Out of a need for expediency she met me at the closest branch of my bank and together they allowed us to do that. It cost me nearly $50 in taxi fares to get there and back.
On my side of things, I set up a GoFundMe. That wasn’t easy either. I had to work around three bugs in their system and contacting a real person for tech support is nearly impossible these days.
Problem 1: When they suggest posting a photo would be helpful but optional… it wasn’t optional.
Problem 2: When setting up the bank account information they require a verification code. That code is only good for ten minutes and can be sent to me either by text message of a voice phone call. I don’t do text. I don’t have a smart phone. The voice phone call never came. Again, vetwife came to the rescue. I gave her phone number and she relayed the code to me. I’ve now resurrected an old flip phone, so perhaps that won’t be needed in the future.
Problem 3: GoFundMe uses WePay to handle transfers. When they sent me the first payment, it was a double deposit. They sent it twice. Again, it was impossible to talk to a real person and let them know. I finally appended a reply to an earlier email message dealing with an earlier problem. Surprisingly, that worked. They tell me they’ve isolated and fixed that bug. It’s money after all.
WePay was acquired by Chase a couple of years ago. You would think they would have fixed such problems by now.
I’ve been overwhelmed.
The generosity of this community is nearly enough to lead me to think we already live in the world we all aspire to.
Let me say that again.
The generosity of this community is nearly enough to lead me to think we already live in the world we all aspire to.
Although I’ve not been able to reply to each and every comment, best wishes, and contribution, I am truly overwhelmed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you one and all. I’m blinking my eyes a lot as I write this. It must be dusty in here.
Let me close by suggesting that vetwife’s veterans advocacy group gets shown a little love: vetwife.wixsite.com/…
Bless you all.
