Look, I am so tired of the so-called mystery regarding Trump and his non-mis-speak regarding Alabama and Hurricane Dorian. There is no mystery, for me, about why Trump “misspoke” four days ago and said Alabama was officially in Dorian’s path. He wasn’t having Georgia—oops!—Bama on his mind. The truth is that Trump’s “seriously superior” mind had a slight brain toot and got Alabama confused with Georgia. I was raised in Alabama and can tell you it happens all the time. Just not by locals or even those who live in the Southeast. It happens to/with the rest of the US and those citizens who believe most Southern states are pretty much a joke. Mississippi vs Alabama? Only important to those Alabamians who are delighted to have Mississippi in the number 50 place to their number 49. For pretty much all the non-Southern portion of the states, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia are interchangeable.
So, stop trying to figure out why Trump is so sensitive to his error regarding the threat of Dorian. It isn’t because he actually thought the real estate that is in Alabama was threatened by this hurricane or that he was defending his recollection of events. It’s because he’s not wanting to let the rubes (aka his base) in Georgia and Alabama know he doesn’t have a clue which state is which. Now, before you go all PC on me, rest assured some of those rubes are some of my family, and I’m just thinking about how Trump really feels about them. (Good news: a few of my family “rubes” aren’t letting themselves be “fooled again!” But then again, they said that about George Bush and Iraq.)
Just wanted to get to the root of Trump’s continuing war on history.
