Some here may remember that I went two summers without air conditioning in my car. Then I helped my mechanic solve a bit of a political problem with the phone company and I got my air fixed for 1/3rd the price it should have cost.
So, I love the a/c on my long, now cool, drives to work everyday but I realized that I can’t afford to use it that often because it sucks up my gas. I use $52 more gas a month by using the a/c and I don’t actually make an extra $52 a month.
An article on my home page about a/c use in a car caught my eye the other day. I can’t find the original article but these two come close. www.ecolife.com/… auto.howstuffworks.com/…
The article I read compared a car with the a/c on to a car with all 4 windows rolled down. The upshot of the article I read was that both a/c and open windows use extra fuel. It was suggested that driving with the windows rolled up was the most fuel efficient way to go.
I think that would solve a lot of my problems as temperatures are supposed to be in the high 90’s, low 100’s this week. If I do my usual drives to and from work, I’ll be found dead in a traffic jam one day. To my knowledge, the dead don’t drive so think of what I’ll save on gas.
How’s your fuel efficiency?
