Following the 2008 elections, the Swing State Project (the predecessor site to Daily Kos Elections) began calculating the results of that year’s presidential race for all 435 congressional districts. Fortunately, we didn’t realize at the outset just how challenging the project would be! But we persevered and were able to provide an accurate, transparent set of data to the public that most states don’t provide themselves.
Since then, we’ve broadened our scope and now provide results not only for congressional districts but legislative districts as well—all 6,764 of them. In addition, we now crunch the numbers for statewide races, like contests for Senate and governor, for all of these electoral districts. You can find our entire data collection right here. These numbers have become the gold standard for district-level data.
As you can imagine, all of this is a lot of work, which is why we’re looking for help. Daily Kos would like to hire one or more individuals as independent contractors to calculate the results of 2018’s statewide elections for select states. We’re able to pay for your work on a per-state basis. Interested individuals should have:
- Deep experience with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables
- An extremely meticulous, downright pedantic attention to detail
- A strong perfectionist streak
- Familiarity with election data
If you’ve worked on projects like this before, that’s a bonus, but if not, that’s okay. If you have the necessary skills, we will teach you our precise, detailed procedures for calculating the most accurate results possible.
Interested individuals should email jeffsinger -at- dailykos -dot- com. We look forward to working with you!
