I don’t know how you determine who and what makes you a democrat. Is it a belief or is it a statement? Is there a guideline that lets you know exactly how to qualify as a “real democrat”? I believe that Bernie Sanders represents a dying breed of the democratic party. The New Deal Party. His ideas and policies directly align with arguably the most famous democratic president in our history, Franklin D. Roosevelt. The federal jobs guarantee will allow working class Americans the opportunity to find decent paying jobs while simultaneously allowing us to rebuild a crumbling infrastructure that only the most poor and desolate Americans have the displeasure of living through. A medicare for all program would be a realization of FDR’s second bill of rights that he sadly couldn’t work on due to his passing. Free college tuition was also mentioned in FDR’s second bill of rights. The New Deal, his social policies, and his bold ideas made it possible for FDR to remain in office for four terms and provoked republican leaders to begin writing bills to limit presidential terms that eventually passed and are still used today. Even after Eisenhower took back power for the republican party, he still supported and even expanded the New Deal programs because he saw the good they did for the working class and this country. Bernie’s position however you label it, is in line with these older democratic strategies that have a proven winning record.
