After I got off of work earlier today, I had to run a couple of errands and pay a visit for an hour or so. As I walked inside to pay that visit, I noticed that it started snowing...it was a rather light snow, but you could see it. When I was finished visiting, I walked back outside to go home and the ground was covered with snow. The snow was coming down hard. The wind was blowing. Fresh snow was sticking to naked tree limbs...and I love it.
I’ve always heard that people tend to best enjoy the season corresponding to the season of their birth.
I was born in the summer time (July). Yet, I do prefer winter, generally.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike the summer time. There’s no better time to see the hustle and bustle of cities and peoples and everything.
I do dislike the extremities of summer weather, though. Anytime the temperature is above...say, 85-90 degrees and the humidity is typical Chicago humidity, I’d much rather be indoors with A/C cranked up.
Yes, Chicago winter weather extremities are...extreme. But...I do tend to go outside a little more when winter extremities are cranked up whether it’s an incoming Blizzard or a really cold day with temperatures/wind chills well below 0 (of course, when I do make my winter excursions, I am layered to the max!)
My love and preference for winter weather seems to be one sense in which I could be considered...contrarian.
I can be a contrarian in many other ways and it is a character trait of mine that has been commented on here at Daily Kos.
Some years...over a decade ago, I decided to discuss the particular character trait with a therapist and his observation at the time was that I utilize the contrarian trait to keep people at a distance; a trait which has both benefits and demerits.
Part of me becoming a mature adult (well, to the extent that I can be considered to be “mature”) has been allowing others to get to know me well enough that they can see my...patterns, I suppose...which in turn allows me to get to know my own patterns, when I think about it.
Having said all that, I still prefer the winter to the summer.
So...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
