What can be done in three minutes to promote dailykos and the kossacks to the public you ask?
Lets assume the following.
- We enjoy dailykos. So we enjoy it, but how are new people getting in here if they are not already interested in politics. After a while it seems all very cliquey (is that even a word? well it is if you understand what I mean). It is easy for people to feel that this is a bubble. Most of us would like to see the number of people who peek once in a while to increase.
- We would like more people to be here actively or even just passively participating, reading the plethora of discourses. Many people lurk for long time, sometimes without evenn creating an account. More lurkers leads to more registrations leads to more commentaries and more diaries.
- The site has much more than just politics. There are many social commentaries and diaries, a whole devoted groups who do fiction, and book clubs, dedicated green stories and themes (While I personally argue that everything is politics from price of banana to colour of toothbrush and an advertising leaflet for pizza, but that is an issue for future explanation). The delightful pictures of planes and trees and cats and back gardens unkempt or otherwise.
- Dailykos has mechanism for sharing sharing and promoting articles through sharing on facebook and twitter. That is an outward sharing that goes out to people who already know or follow you on those platforms. Is it going to new people who might be brought into the kossacks worlds?
- That brings me to the question, when was the last time when you searched for something on your favourite search engine (who is kidding, it is Google for more than 99% of the people) it showed up a dailykos diary? Even diaries with more than 200 commentaries do not show up easily.
So the three minutes: This three minute I am asking for, here is how I am requesting you spend the three minutes a day for kossacks all over.
When you Recommend a diary, pop over to a search engine (on a new browser tab) run a few searches with some terms you think should or mightn bring up the diary on search results. Do not use the word “dailykos”. We are only interested in first page. Try for a while until the diary shows up on page 1 of search results.
The next important bit, once it comes up click through that link to the story.
What will this achieve? It will seed the search engine so that other people searching similar terms as you used have a higher probability of seeing the diary. Please note I ask this only of thje diaries you recommend. Surely if you like or think a diary important enough to Recommend it you can spend 3 minutes to promote it in the ether.
Why 3 minutes? 1 minute to load the search engine and two minutes to run a handful of searches.
