Not a lot here, and Republican hypocrisy is not a surprise. (And no, I don’t buy Dershowitz’s self-proclaimed “I’m a liberal Democrat” bs — this is the guy who advocated “torture warrants” for God’s sake!) But still, it would be amusing if the stakes weren’t so high. CNN posted this vid of Dershowitz, Trump’s’ “constitutional expert” who takes the insane view that abuse of power cannot be the basis for Presidential impeachment because it is not a crime. He sang a different tune when Bill Clinton was facing impeachment, of course. In 1998 he said
"It certainly doesn't have to be a crime if you have somebody who completely corrupts the office of president and who abuses trust and who poses great danger to our liberty, you don't need a technical crime."
"We look at their acts of state. We look at how they conduct the foreign policy. We look at whether they try to subvert the Constitution."
Of course, this is exactly what the House impeachment managers are arguing today. But for some obscure, inexplicable but totally principled reason, I’m sure, the Dersh doesn’t agree with himself (not to mention the vast majority of legal scholars who have studied the issue) any longer — though he claims his two positions are totally consistent. It’s amusing watching him try to reconcile the two diametrically opposed positions here. (Sorry, I couldn’t embed the video.)
