Since Mike Pompeo thinks this is a great challenge, worthy of stumping a Cambridge and Harvard-educated journalist specializing in national security, I thought I would make a guide for we plebeians not so enlightened as he.
Here is Europe:
Now remember that Ukraine is in a hot land war with Russia:
(Optional: Since Ukraine is often considered the “front line” between Europe and Russia, the Baltic and Nordic states can probably be excluded:
Now remember that flights from Malaysia to Western Europe fly through Eastern Ukraine.
Congratulations, now you too can outsmart the Secretary of State!
Edit: As some commenters have pointed out, Crimea itself is quite obvious. The access to the Black Sea, location of the new bridge to Russia, and the Sea of Azov that had been the location of several naval standoffs are major landmarks.
Update: Pompeo is now claiming Mary Louise Kelly mistook Bangladesh for Ukraine. This is completely implausible considering how obvious the general vicinity of Ukraine is even for me, much less a reporter who has been to the region many times.
Just a reminder, this is not the first time Pompeo has gotten angry with a reporter for asking simple questions he felt were too hard.
