So, I’ve been trying to get down to doing this essay on the deadly sin of wrath (anger) using such lovely literary sources and taking a peak at what philosophies have to say about it, etc,
I have been planning on doing a deep dive into the deadly sin of anger. I mean, this was gonna have all sorts of literary references, personal experiences, and what not.
And I will still do that. (but not this week!)
But I saw this.
Now for one, I don’t pray.
And I don’t think that I wish the horrific nature of the coronavirus on The Damn Fool and The Damn Foolette.
But praying for their speedy recovery?
I can’t do it.
I live in a blue state.
My family lives in the same battleground state as “that woman from Michigan.”
This Administration was willing to let those of us in Illinois and Michigan die without federal help.
In the light of The Damn Fool and The Damn Foolette’s diagnosis; in light of The Damn Fool being airlifted to Walter Reed hospital, I don’t feel much of anything except for a formerly simmering pot that I’ve had the heat turned up.
I’m pissed.
Now, is this the type of anger that, like the anger of Achilles in The Iliad, can boil over into committing all sorts of atrocities?
Right now it is. (Hence why it’s a deadly sin).
But give me a week to sit down and think on it.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. An eloquent paean from StellaRay to all we are losing in the pandemic and why we should care.
From Paul A:
I have to nominate ruscle's comment to Jen Hayden's post.
The missing context is an old joke. John was asked to watch Bob's family home while the family was on vacation, included was the dog, the cat and Bob's Grandma.
After the first week, Bob called home and asked how things were going. John replied "Everything is okay, except the cat died." Bob says "Couldn't you be more diplomatic?" John asks "What do you mean?" Bob replies "Well, if I ask how the cat is, say the cat's on the roof" then the next time, you could tell me it died"
The next week, Bob calls, John answers and after a short discussion, Bob asks how his Grandma is doing.
John replies "She's on the roof"

From AloshyaKaramazov's diary, 'I Vow to Give as Much of a Sh*t About TrumPositive as He's Given About 208,000 Dead Americans' comes itsjim's 100% on-point response to the big news of the day:
"I like presidents that don't test positive for COVID-19"
