If the Trump administration succeeds in striking down the Affordable Care Act in the courts, Democratic nominee Joe Biden knew exactly what he would do if elected president.
"What I'm going to do is pass Obamacare with a public option," Biden offered at Thursday night's debate. If you don't qualify for Medicaid in your state, Biden explained, "You're automatically enrolled, providing competition for insurance companies. That's what's going to happen."
Moments earlier, Trump had promised he would "come up with a brand-new beautiful health care." Included in that, he said, "Preexisting conditions will always stay ... we'll always protect preexisting."
Except, of course, that four years into his presidency Trump still doesn't have a healthcare plan.
Biden decided to call bullshit.
"There's no way you can protect preexisting conditions. None. Zero," Biden said. "You can't do it in the ether. He's been talking about this for a long time. He's never come up with a plan—I guess we're gonna get the preexisting condition plan the same time we get the infrastructure plan."
Ah, yes, the infrastructure week that never was to be. Thanks for the reminder.
