Federal court filings made this week by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Justice Department say that the parents of some 545 migrant children who are currently in the United States have not been found. These parents were separated from their children at the U.S. border by border officials under President Trump's zero tolerance policy from 2017 to 2018, and the filing says the parents are now unreachable.
It’s painful to think about the children who have been separated from their parents by this administration. When Joe Biden talked about them at the debate last week, I could tell he also feels the pain, but he isn’t shying away from facing it. If Biden is elected, I have no doubt that reuniting those children with their parents is going to be his first priority, but it isn’t going to be easy.
One of the organizations that has been working to locate the parents of those children is Justice In Motion, an organization with a Defender Network of human rights lawyers and nonprofit organizations throughout Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
If you are feeling helpless about those children and want to do something, please consider donating to help them do the work of reuniting those children with their families.
