Taylor Swift still holds the top of the charts with her album released under COVID, “Folklore”, but that album wasn’t the last bit of music we get to hear from the multi-grammy winner this year. Swift, who has repeatedly denounced the Trump administration and seen in her Netflix documentary talking about her loathing attitude toward Marsha Blackburn, came out swinging in a music release today called “Only the Young” urging young voters to turn out and vote.
Quoting Kamala Harris to lead off the song, Swift refers to Trump as “The Big Bad Man, With a Big Bad Plan, and his hands are stained with Red”, “They aren’t going to help us, they are too busy helping themselves.”
And lays out the challenge to young voters: one thing can save us — the young.
Can Swift’s call for youth votes resonate with her crossover country-pop audience? If nothing else, it is an artist putting it on the line in a genre that hasn’t been all that friendly to those who have done so (see The Chicks).
