Question, friends: Want to feel like a rich person?
I’ve been advising big-dollar donors all year on how to plan their smartest election investment strategies (I spoke with Supermajority about that here if you want to read more). But with just days to go until November 3, I want to tell you the best way you can donate at this very moment. It isn’t a six-figure strategy, but for the impact it’ll deliver, it may as well be. Drum roll, please…
GIVE TO HYPER-LOCAL, PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATES IN SWING DISTRICTS.
I promise that if you do, BOTH YOU AND THEM WILL FEEL LIKE A MILLION BUCKS.
A $10 gift to a hyperlocal candidate is like a $1,000 gift to Biden-Harris or a senatorial campaign. Plus, donating down-ballot delivers that wonderful “reverse coattails” effect for the rest of the Democratic ticket. Meaning, if you can help turn out a voter for a local candidate, chances are they’re gonna just vote blue across the ballot. And, local candidates are just so inspiring, y’know?
Here are just three candidates worth getting to know who are getting my personal dollars down the stretch. Read up on them below and I promise you’ll want to break out a few bucks for them too. (Also, please shout out your fave hyperlocals in the comments! The more, the merrier!)
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE SENATE CANDIDATE Sam Skardon. Just yesterday, South Carolina’s Post and Courier wrote in their endorsement of Skardon, “Sam Skardon is a breath of fresh air in a political system that is suffocating in a toxic brew of anger and animosity — a candidate who calls us to reach higher and be better.” Speaking personally as a Charleston, South Carolina voter, I’ve had the pleasure of watching his journey, meeting him in person and having conversations with him about his plans and values. Sam’s the kind of leader we need to bring hope back to the South and represent this great state.
L.A. CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE Nithya Raman. What a story this woman has! She immigrated to the U.S. from India at the age of 6. She went to Harvard and MIT. She co-founded a homelessness organization in L.A. and served as executive director of Time’s Up Entertainment before stepping aside to run against Democratic incumbent David Ryu on a homelessness-focused platform. (She also has a plan to achieve carbon neutrality in L.A. by 2030.) After Ryu beat Raman by less than 1,000 votes in the primaries, their November 3 election is a runoff for Ryu’s seat.
LOUISVILLE METRO COUNCIL MEMBER CANDIDATE Mera Kathryn Corlett. Mera is a judge for District 1 of the Jefferson County Justice of the Peace in Kentucky who’s running for election to the Louisville Metro Council to represent District 18 in Kentucky. I’ll let this tweet tell you why she’s worth supporting:
And don’t sleep on… Janet Diaz for Pennsylvania State Senate, Nakita Hemingway for Georgia State Representative House District 104 or veteran Elizabeth Beck for Texas House District 97.
Stay tuned for another post coming about voter protection organizations and civil rights organizations that we support and encourage you to as well! The fight for voter protection our civil rights and liberties goes far beyond November 3 and we’re excited to share organizations with you that are doing the work 365 days a year.

Home stretch, friends! Let’s go!
