On the eve of the elections, Dr. Fauci offered an unusually blunt and grim assessment of the COVID-19 situation and the trump administration’s ongoing criminal mishandling of it in a wide ranging interview with the Washington Post on Friday. On Halloween night, we bring forth these dark and frightening warnings from Dr. Fauci for what lies ahead as winter approaches and the Coronavirus continues to run rampant through the arteries of our nation.
Here are a few snippets from the article, edited for clarity. Please read the article for the full story and background.
- “We’re in for a whole lot of hurt. It’s not a good situation. All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly.”
- “The United States needs to make an abrupt change in public health practices and behaviors. The country could surpass 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day and see rising deaths in the coming weeks.”
- “Biden’s campaign is taking it seriously from a public health perspective. Trump is looking at it from a different perspective … the economy and reopening the country.”
- He and Deborah Birx, coronavirus task force coordinator, no longer have regular access to the president and he has not spoken to Trump since early October.
- “The only medical person who sees the president on a regular basis is Scott Atlas. It’s certainly not Debbie Birx.”
- On Scott Atlas — ”I have real problems with that guy. He’s a smart guy who’s talking about things that I believe he doesn’t have any real insight or knowledge or experience in. He keeps talking about things that when you dissect it out and parse it out, it doesn’t make any sense.”
- Fauci said he actually appreciated chief of staff Mark Meadows saying last weekend on CNN that the administration was not going to control the pandemic. “I tip my hat to him for admitting the strategy. He is straightforward in telling you what’s on his mind. I commend him for that.”
- On Atlas — “He insists he’s not somebody who’s pushing for herd immunity. He says, ‘That’s not what I mean.’ [But] everything he says — when you put them together and stitch them together — everything is geared toward the concept of ‘it doesn’t make any difference if people get infected. It’s a waste of time. Masks don’t work. Who cares,’ and the only thing you need to do is protect the vulnerable, like people in the nursing homes.”
- “The idea of this false narrative that if you don’t die, everything is hunky dory is just not the case, But to say, ‘Let people get infected, it doesn’t matter, just make sure people don’t die’ — to me as a person who’s been practicing medicine for 50 years, it doesn’t make any sense at all.”
Dr. Fauci is pretty much confirming what we all have known for a while — that the administration is chasing the herd immunity strategy, by letting most people get infected naturally, letting a few million die and making some vacuous promises about protecting the vulnerable. They have no clue how the virus works, what it does to the human body even if you survive, what level of immunity is attained after an infection and that almost 50% of Americans fall into the vulnerable category.
Dr. Fauci sounds very very concerned, as are all respected experts on this subject. And the nation needs to hear this from Dr. Fauci’s mouth.
It sure sounds like Dr. Fauci knows that his days in the administration are numbered. After this interview, he might get fired tomorrow from the Coronavirus task force; I doubt he can be fired from the NIH.
The White House, through spokesman Judd Deere, offered its usual ghoulish criticism of Fauci for his comments - “It’s unacceptable and breaking with all norms for Dr. Fauci, a senior member of the President’s Coronavirus Task Force and someone who has praised President Trump’s actions throughout this pandemic, to choose three days before an election to play politics,” blah blah. We can expect trump and the right-wing noise machine to soon raise their attack level on Dr. Fauci, start braying about deep-state, lob death threats, etc.
This is an incompetent, sociopathic and desperate bunch of people, who will be in charge until Jan 20, even if Biden wins the presidency and Democrats win the Senate. The sabotage and damage may accelerate if trump loses. We are unfortunately “in for a whole lot of hurt.”
We had 100k cases yesterday and over 80k cases in each of the past 4 days. Daily deaths have been averaging around 900 and will continue to rise since there is lag of several weeks between infections and fatalities.
Let’s stay vigilant and focused — let’s win the election, let’s take precautions to protect ourselves and others, and let’s keep our eyes open for further developments.
