Welcome to the Monday Good News Roundup, where we bring you hand picked stories to get you ready to fight for a brighter future.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Democrat Joe Biden opened his widest lead in a month in the U.S. presidential race after President Donald Trump tested positive for the coronavirus, and a majority of Americans think Trump could have avoided infection if he had taken the virus more seriously, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Sunday.
The Oct. 2-3 national opinion poll gave little indication of an outpouring of support for the president beyond Trump's core group of followers, some of whom have gathered outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where the president has been hospitalized.
I’m going to try and avoid bringing up Trump being sick, but I can’t guarantee how successful that will be depending on the articles I have. The real issue here is that Biden’s lead on Trump is growing day by day, the debate was an utter disaster for Trump, and seems to have turned even members of his own base against him.
Convicted rapist and former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is facing six new sex assault charges relating to women in California as he serves time in a New York prison.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office laid the charges against the disgraced Hollywood producer, all which allegedly took place in Beverly Hills hotels.
The office of DA Jackie Lacey alleges Weinstein raped a woman at one hotel between September 1, 2004 and September 30, 2005, the New York Postreported.
The felony complaint also alleges Weinstein twice raped another woman at a hotel. He is now facing a total of 11 charges relating to alleged attacks on five women at various hotels.
Good. Weinstein deserves to be dragged through the mud by every woman he ever hurt, again and again, for the rest of his days. They all deserve justice for what he did.
Both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin have agreed to include a second direct payment as part of another stimulus package and continue to meet to reach a deal.
So how much money can you count on? The first stimulus check was worth up to $1,200 per adult, but a second stimulus check may amount to more or less, especially if the qualifications for dependents are broadened or if your financial circumstances have changed since the first round in March. These new eligibility rules (among others) will shape the size of a potential payment.
Read on to see how some realistic scenarios could play out -- it may also be helpful to know how your yearly taxes help determine your share of stimulus money. You can also use CNET's stimulus calculator to get an estimate of the size of your check. This story updates often.
I mean they’re still working on it, and I’ll keep reporting on it as they do, but people really need that stimulus money, so I hope it happens.
The mainstream media is covering the climate crisis infinitely more than they used to. However, they often report dramatically more on the negative—focusing on the new extremes in our regional temperatures, the dramatic new rainfall patterns, forest fires, and floods.
While it is crucial to relay the scope of the challenge we now face, we should not ignore the businesses and scientists who have devoted themselves to solving key aspects of the clean energy and carbon capture challenges. A rapid new influx of researchers—some funded by governments—have sped up the flow of progress more and more quickly.
A lot of people are negative about the climate, but we are hard at work trying to fix things. Every day we make things better.
There may be a good reason for why we love to watch little piglets and fluffy ducks online.
Seeing adorable animals actually helps to reduce stress levels in humans, researchers at England’s University of Leeds have found.
Yep, so if you are ever feeling stressed out, just look at some cute puppies and kitties online.
Alright, that’s it for this week. Sorry not many substantial stories, but as you can imagine everyone is talking about Trump, so the pickings were slim. Still, have a good Monday, and keep fighting the good fight, we’re almost at the end of this. We can win this.
