From The Metro Times:
With the eyes now on Republicans to see if they will change their tune regarding COVID-19, WXYZ-TV asked Republican Senate nominee John James on Sunday if he always wears a mask. In the clip, James says he has "always done everything he can to protect folks who are vulnerable."
But that's not true, according to leaked photos shared by John James Revealed, a website run by the Michigan Democratic Party. The group posted a photo slideshow of every time James has been caught in public this year not wearing a mask, including appearances with Vice President Mike Pence and Trump lapdog Kid Rock, all set to "In the Hall of the Mountain King" for dramatic effect.
FYI:
U.S. Sen. Gary Peters says he was tested Saturday for COVID-19 and the results were negative.
Peters, a Michigan Democrat, took the test and will quarantine for a little less than two weeks because a senator who serves on a committee with him tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus.
"My test was negative. I don't have symptoms and am feeling great. Out of an abundance of caution, I'll self-quarantine until October 14th. In the meantime, I'll keep doing my job, fighting for Michiganders, by working virtually from home," Peters tweeted Saturday afternoon.
Speaking of Michigan and the coronavirus:
A razor-thin Michigan Supreme Court decision that appears to doom Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s ability to unilaterally issue COVID-19 emergency orders brings upcoming elections for the high court into the spotlight.
Friday’s 4-3 decision declared unconstitutional a 1945 law used by the governor to repeatedly extend her emergency powers, including mask requirements and crowd restrictions. All four justices in the majority were nominated by the Republican Party; the three justices in dissent were nominated by the Democratic Party.
On Nov. 3, two Supreme Court seats will go before statewide voters, with the court’s ideological leanings in the balance. One of those openings will fill the seat of conservative Stephen Markman, who penned the majority decision Friday and who is barred from running again because of his age.
Here’s the latest polling on the Senate race from Reuters/Ipsos:
