Joe Biden will win 306 Electoral Votes and is set to become the 46th president of the United States, I should be breathing easy that at least the Muslim ban will be overturned, the US will rejoin the climate accords, rejoin WHO and DACA recipients can breathe easier for the next four years. Putin no longer will be pulling the strings in the Oval Office and diplomats and the Justice Department will be asked to do their jobs rather than bend to the whims of the White House…...Restoring normalcy will be progress.
However, I'm still anxious. I'm waiting for Arizona and Georgia to be called for Team Blue, especially Arizona. When both states are called, Biden margin would require at least two state elections to be invalidated. If history is a guide, it's a done deal. But there are lawsuits. Sure the lawsuits are ridiculous, but if one crazy judge takes the bait, then what? Well, for one thing it would give cover for the complete disregard for free and fair elections by Republicans and it might gain a path for Trump somehow to claim victory. The thing is that our protections have narrowed. Elected Republicans are so accustomed to denying reality and bending to Trump's wishes that they are no barrier to a coup. The judiciary is filled with Trump appointees, probably most take the law seriously, but there likely are some who would ignore the overwhelming case that these elections were well-done and the proper winner has been named.
Meanwhile Congressional Republicans refuse to accept democracy saying "what's the harm of accommodating Trump?" Well, the base is boiling, the internet is full of conspiracies and made-up claims and Biden's already tough transition is getting more difficult by the day.
I do have to credit the right for one thing—there hasn't yet been any violence attributable to Trump supporters. I don't know if that will hold much longer and each passing day makes me more anxious.
