On Tuesday evening news came out that two Republican Wayne County, Michigan, canvassers are blocking certification of the Wayne County election results. According to reports, the split on the board is 2-2, with Republicans William Hartmann and Monica Palmer voting to block certification. Hartmann is an avid Trump supporter, with a Facebook page filled with crazy racist anti-Obama signage all over his timeline.
Saying “I smell politics at the core of this action,” one of the Democrats on the board called out the Republican canvassers for this blatantly anti-Democratic and racist position. Palmer said that "I believe that we do not have complete and accurate information on those poll books," pointing to “unexplained discrepancies between the number of absentee ballots recorded as cast and the number of absentee ballots counted.” Not voter fraud mind you. But that’s not why they voted to block the largest voting jurisdiction of Detroit.
If you doubt the racist underpinnings of this, just realize that these two republicans said that they would gladly certify the results of other predominantly white districts votes—even though many of those districts had even more “unexplained discrepancies” than Detroit. But Detroit is about 80 percent Black. Make no mistake, this is an attempt at enacting apartheid in our country.
The Detroit chapter of the NAACP had serious words for Palmer and Williamson, calling them a “disgrace.”

CBS News reporter Adam Brewster reports that the pressure was too much, “BREAKING: The Wayne County Board of Canvassers has just unanimously voted to certify the results of the election & called on Michigan SOS Jocelyn Benson to conduct an audit of the unexplained precincts in Wayne County that did not match.”
