One of the most pathetic pictures I saw today, on this site...
www.dailykos.com/…
...was a group of old and handicapped Trumpsters, huddled together waiting for their buses that would never come. Others from the rally had set off on their long walk back to their cars, reportedly begging for rides as they walked. But those in wheel chairs were plum f’d. Such sad misled people. Third time it’s happened, as the diary above makes clear.
Time after time Trump screws his followers and they pant in the cold like sad old dogs who wonder where their owner went.
So there was that. Then I read Kos’s predictive article:
www.dailykos.com/...
And I enjoyed that and admire that Kos has expanded his horizons to include polling. However I think maybe one of the best parts of this article will not be read widely here as it’s kind of thrown away in the story.
nymag.com/…
It has to do with Brad Parscale, former campaign manager for Trump, and based on that, just how awful their ground operation may STILL be.
This article is from last August, and it’s rather long, but to me it read like the plot outline of a Shakespeare play if he was here to do so today. What becomes clear fast is that Pascal was unequal to his task, and it took till he was fired, just over 2 months before the election, for anyone in the Trump organization to realize it. Because---incompetence, right, left and center is par for the course for this administration, and don’t we all know it.
Seems Pascal did squat regarding building the campaign, except to do whatever Jared Kushner told him to do, as he lined his pockets with millions of dollars. That’s the Shakespeare part, and I invite any of you who read this article to attempt your own “bard” lines to describe all this.
But my purpose here is to say In fact, the incompetence is gob smacking. The stories of “Trump campaign centers” enough cheer you no end. Now true, Bill Stepien took over---a totally different and more driven guy than Pascal was---but with just over 60 days to go.
And it just sort of came together for me, that the chaos of everything surrounding Trump most probably surrounds their GOTV efforts too. Unless Stepien is a miracle worker---there is a very good chance that as Kos said in his article:
What if the vaunted Trump turnout machine doesn’t exist? It was supposedly built by former campaign manager Brad Parscale, and everything he’s done turned out to be a grift
If everything Trump touches dies, you gotta wonder what up with his GOTV campaign. Because the only GOTV campaign Trump cares about is his rallies, his personal narcissistic forcefield blaring back at him---”me, glorious me.”
Sure, they say republicans vote no matter what, so maybe they don’t need a great turn out machine, even in the time of a pandemic and an economy that hasn’t even begun to absorb the shock yet?
SIGH. We all have pre-election jitters, but something about reading this one article Kos linked eased my jitters, because I thought to myself, how can it be that the one thing Trump has ever done right is his GOTV campaign? As Spock would say, seems illogical.
I know his base will turn out with flags waving and perhaps guns strapped to their bodies. We all know he has his base for God’s sake. It’s a cult. But I am seriously wondering what their ground game is about, and if the mythology that scares Dems---they don’t really need a ground game because they always vote---is true.
Guess we’ll find out soon.
