If ever there was a modern day equivalent to Nero fiddling while Rome burned, it has to be Trump golfing while his stooges attempt to overturn a presidential election.
As far as I’m concerned President Biden should prepare his entire cabinet to serve as temporary appointments if need be. Wouldn’t that be amazing if Dems actually played hardball for once, instead of giving McConnell any control over his picks. We have learned from Trump that Republicans are all in on violating government norms and protocols so what’s the big deal?
While it is true more of us voted for Biden than aggrieved Americans voted for Trump, it is also true that a majority of elected Republicans would be tickled to trash democracy for good and go with a pseudo-monarchy. Their silence in watching the Trump administration, and I use the term loosely, refuse to cooperate with a lawful transition to the winner of the election, not to mention Trump’s attempt to disenfranchise non-white voters kind of says it all.
Fox News is as much responsible for this abuse of our democracy as any member of the present government. They understand the pandemic is real, understand the damage Trump is doing to the country and they cheer him on. They understand he is a sociopath and they cheer him on. They understand he is likely the laziest, most incompetent president in our history and yet they cheer him on. Wait, there’s more: they willfully lie to their viewers.
I applaud Joe Biden for wanting to include Republicans in his government and there actually are good men and women who have lived their lives as lifelong Republicans until Trump. I have nothing against Republicans in general, but their party has morphed into a Reality TV cult. Biden should ignore working with members of Congress who countenance and repeat disinformation, conspiracy theories and have violated Federal law over the past four years.
I am most interested to see if Biden allows for an independent commission to investigate the almost too numerous to list scandals and crimes committed during Trump’s attempted mob takeover.
And last for tonight, Trump has laid out the new Republican playbook. Some highlights: Do whatever you want until they stop you. Lie, lie, and lie some more until they believe you. Use the cover of the law to break the law. Grab what you can, it’s yours for the taking.
