If anyone needed emblematic proof positive that Fox News is nothing but a propaganda- spewing organ of the Republican Party, those doubts should now be put to rest. When Fox—and every other news outlet in the country-- calls this election for Joe Biden (possibly today) , Fox has specifically told its news anchors not to refer Vice-President Biden as the “President-Elect.”
As reported by CNN Friday morning:
New York (CNN Business)Fox News is instructing its anchors not to call Joe Biden the "President-elect" when the network calls the race, according to two memos obtained by CNN.
The memos say Fox should "stay away" from using the description, and instead say something such as Biden has "enough electoral votes to win the presidency."
The network is apparently abandoning its pretense of being a legitimate news outlet, in order to kowtow to the Trump campaign, which earlier this week expressed its fury at Fox News for what it perceived to be a premature call of the state of Arizona in Joe Biden’s favor. Trump son-in-law and genocide-cheerleader Jared Kushner personally called Rupert Murdoch to complain about the Arizona call.
Fox’s excuse is that the panoply of meritless lawsuits brought by the Trump campaign to disenfranchise the American electorate might somehow cloud Biden’s anticipated clear-cut victory. And while it is true that networks refrained from calling George W. Bush a “president-elect” until Gore conceded in 2000, that was a scenario involving a legitimately uncertain outcome. Which is not what we will have here.
And of course, Fox News called Trump the “president-elect” on the day after the 2016 election.
This is, sadly, not unexpected from Fox. However, if the network wants to further compromise itself, by all means, please proceed.
