The surprises continue as we anxiously await more election results. Americans across the country stayed up all night waiting for returns from Georgia and Pennsylvania and any chance of a miracle and lo and behold, they followed through. Not one but both states flipped blue in favor of Joe Biden in the early hours of Friday. Georgia’s significant Black voter turnout not only helped flip the state but highlighted the impact movements against racial injustice have had on democracy. Pennsylvania’s moment came after more than 30,000 votes from the Philadelphia area were counted, Daily Kos reported.
As a result, Philadelphia residents took to the streets to express their happiness and pride in flipping the state. Across the City of Brotherly Love on Friday morning, people danced and cheered with hope for the future of America. But there’s no need to feel any FOMO (fear of missing out) if you’re not in Philly and can’t partake in the celebrations, because Philly Twitter is having a party of its own.
Here’s a roundup of some of the celebrations taking place, as well as trending tweets.
Philly really came through and celebrations are in order, as Philadelphia City Council Member Helen Gym said: “Philly can’t stop [and] won’t stop until every vote is counted.” The city has truly embraced its role in this election and despite Trump supporters attempting to scare them, residents are not backing down and are instead standing their ground peacefully and joyfully.
