Galaxie 500's singsongy psychedelic 'Oblivious' was so sweet and lo-fi that it might have been actual innocence instead of the Velvet Underground's received ghost.
On Fire acknowledges a past master of mopery with an unsanctimonious cover of George Harrison’s 'Isn’t It a Pity'. This second release shapes out the spaces between Dean Wareham's proto-strum and whine/wail, Naomi Yang's exceptionally melodic bass lines (the band's true emotional center) and Damon Krukowski's economical drumming. — Trouser Press
It’s a testament to On Fire’s quality that it leads off with its best song and still manages to keep going strong after hitting that peak early. “Blue Thunder” builds slowly, starting off with gentle strums and Wareham’s yearning vocals. Yang lays down a bass line that’s like a tranquil pond that Krukowski keeps rippling with drum hits. It all builds up to Wareham’s guitar solo, a moment of expressive beauty that feels like a dam inside the song bursting open. — AV Club
‘Blue Thunder’ (1989)
Despite the warm, summer looking album cover, this one is best heard during winter. I practically wore out my cassette copy of On Fire in my car during Midwestern winters. I have a strong association between the third Galaxie 500 album, This Is Our Music, and summertime. The yin to On Fire’s yang I suppose.
The reverb and atmosphere on On Fire is so thick you can practically float on top of it like salt water in an isolation tank. But there are enough flashes of noisy experimentation to keep it from being an easy soak. — AV Club

A late night gathering for non serious palaver that does not speak of that night’s show. Posting a spoiler will get you brollywhacked. You don’t want that to happen to you. It's a fate worse than a fate worse than death.
