While the eyes of the political world are on Georgia, this Sunday morning, I took an hour (and some change) drive to North Stafford, VA. Because of the embarrassment of riches and opportunity in the air for Democrats here in Virginia, we’ve got two special elections on January 5 in HD-2 and in HD-90. The last time Republicans even contested HD-90, the Democrat won over 80% of the vote! HD-2 is a district that Democrats just flipped in 2017. Needless to say, it’s all hands on deck time.
Needless to say, hands have arrived on deck.
Of course, because of surging COVID-19 cases across the state and across the country we aren’t doing traditional door-to-door. We aren’t going up to voters’ doors and initiating conversations, changing hearts and minds like we love to do. However, we’re doing all we can in good conscience with good social distancing, spacing, and smiles under masks all around!
Candi King, as I suspected, is cool as a fan.
On the other team, as expected, Republicans are playing dirty. What else can you do when your candidate’s own accomplishments aren’t exciting and can’t generate the buzz you need? You and your shadowy minions lie, decontextualize, and dog whistle in hopes that people won’t pay enough attention to the particulars to realize what you’re up to. I spoke about this with Howie Klein last week — who runs the progressive blog called “Down With Tyranny” that helps progressive Democrats everwhere.
"the GOP is running the same playbook on her that they've been told to from on high: scream about defunding the police-- no matter who the candidate is. Too bad, in this case, they really should have checked the Google first. Candi King's husband is a sheriff in Fairfax County. For whatever you think about reallocating funds and obseletizing functions that police around America generally carry out, it's clear what the undertone of this political attack is from Ms. Heather Mitchell and who the intended audience is.”
The Georgia elections are going to be well-resourced and well-publicized — as evidenced by the fact that even before reading this diary, you knew about Georgia’s elections and you probably didn’t know about Virginia’s. That’s why I’m writing this diary. Like I said earlier, it’s all hands on deck time.
DailyKosCommunity, this is a job for you. With your $5, $15, $25 contributions, you can help us Virginia Democrats in our quest to not only defend the 55 seats in the House of Delegates that we represent, but help us push toward 60. It all begins January 5th. It all begins now with you.
