Tonight is a short diary, because you’re going to see my name on your TC masthead more than once this week (which reminds me, if you’ve ever thought “I wonder if I could write for Top Comments” drop me a kosmail! You just might be right for us!). This last week of the year always feels like time out of time to me. Because our house still runs on academic time and will until K2 is out of college, both kids are on winter break and Mr. Brillig in general more or less takes the week off. So while we still have regular life and it’s not actually a holiday week, it sort of is and we try to do things we don’t always get to do! Enjoy a couple of photos from the past few days before we dive into tonight’s Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures!
We build a fire in our fireplace. It’s inconveniently located in our dining room, which K2 says clearly means we should swap our living and dining rooms. That comes with other issues, so every now and then we move the table back, bring pillows, and sprawl out in front of a blazing fire!
We decorate sugar cookies! A tradition from Mr. Brillig’s family, every year we make sugar cookies and decorate with homemade buttercream icing tinted and flavored. There’s vanilla, almond, peppermint, and citrus (usually lemon, but we had fiori di sicilia and tried that instead… yum!!!). I was glad after four years to have my OWN diabetic-friendly cookies and icing!
We clear out space on the big table and do puzzles. I have to say puzzles were easier when my eyes were younger! This may be a longterm project!
Given today’s beautiful 50F weather, we (K1, the pup and I) went for a walk! I thought this view was gorgeous.
The pup did hound things… we call walks where we’re meandering so that Vorpal can smell everything
”Sniffy Walks”. There are coyotes in the area and so we think she smelled every leaf, rock, and twig on our walk at least twice!
At the top of a rock outcropping, we took a moment and stared into the horizon, pondering what the New Year will be like.
