When a person advocates to overthrow the government of the United States, is it not sedition? Does not 18 U.S.C. § 2384 state: If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.
Doesn’t this apply to Donald J. Trump, lame duck president who, let’s face it, is exhorting his cult base to oppose by force if necessary a legal presidential election in which there is actually no evidence of voter fraud. Why does he get a “get out of jail free card?” Is he not attempting to overthrow the results of a huge Biden victory by openly trying get states to throw out the results of the election and claim that he was the winner.
Same law different section concerning Rebellion and Insurrection: Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
Doesn’t this in fact pertain to the same lame duck president who is openly inciting his cult base to reject an election in which he lost by over four percent? Is he not exhorting these same Americans to do whatever is necessary to change the outcome of the election? Are not his faithful making death threats, plotting kidnappings and refusing to accept that the election is over? Are they not threatening to take to the streets? Are there not elected members of Congress who are advocating for violence?
Let’s all say it out loud: Donald J. Trump is a traitor to the presidency. He has done more than any one individual to divide America and advocate for a Civil War; he has called for his base to save him; he has claimed he is the rightful winner of the November election while making false claims about the legitimacy of the election; he has asked Republican officials to violate U.S. and state laws to overturn an election he lost.
Does he stop just short or has he crossed the line? Is he conspiring along with Mike Pence, Rudy Giuliani, Lindsey Graham and others to overturn a legal presidential election that was clearly lost? Is he not guilty of sedition? Is he not calling for rebellion? Are we as a nation too timid to slap him down? Too afraid of some theoretical political cost for simply coming out and saying to him and all those participating in his latest abuse of power: You are all traitors and have violated not only the law but the sanctity of our democracy. You are guilty and must be punished?
