Is this the Ticket To Ride to the White House?
Now that a recording of Mayor Mike expressing some really heinous racist shit has surfaced, many people may think that this will be the end of his emerging positive popularity amongst African-Americans. Perhaps it should be, but I doubt that it will. You see, unlike the current occupant of the White House, Mayor Mike is a shrewd businessman who understands the benefits of "greasing the palms" of those one needs to work with in order to achieve one's goal. And Mayor Mike has slathers of "gease" to soothe even the roughest palms.
For instance, in addition to the millions of dollars he has "contributed" to fighting climate change and legislating gun control (and the hundreds of millions he has spent on his presidential vanity campaign), Mayor Mike purchased a spot on the next DNC debate stage for a mere $1.3 million. But his biggest political get yet is his alliance with Stacy Abrams, perhaps the most influential African-American politician, currently, in the United States. And he has spent lavishly on this courtship:
Stacey Abrams will be hosting Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg at an invite-only voting rights summit in Atlanta on Friday. Bloomberg donated $500,000 to the Abrams campaign for governor in 2018 and $5 million to Abrams' Fair Fight organization.
And if Ms Abrams gives Mayor Mike a pass on "Stop&Frisk", so will the majority of African-Americans. After all, we African-Americans have given a pass to some of the most blatantly racist White Supremacist-Patriarchs for over two hundred years - from Jefferson and Madison to Hayes and Wilson to Reagan and Trump. Compared to these despicable and deplorable White men, Mayor Mike is like manna from heaven.
I, for one, will only vote for Bloomberg for POTUS due to "vote blue no matter who". But as I'll be voting for Warren in the GA primary on March 24th, he'll have to become the Democratic Presidential Nominee without me. Some 8 years ago, while a resident of NYC, I posted a "series" of diaries here on "Stop&Frisk" detailing the negative impact this program was having on POC in NYC:

Stop & Frisk Kabuki: Bloomberg's & Kelley's Epic Fail

Obviously, this is far from a new issue for me. And I have yet to either forgive or forget Bloomberg for his myopia. However, in all honesty, I'm sure that if he greased my palms to the tune of a mil or so, I'd vote for him in the primary. But that's the only way he'll get any love from me.
