House Judiciary Committee Democrats have a lot of questions to ask Attorney General Bill Barr regarding his transformation of the Justice Department into a tool of Donald Trump's quest for personal justice. In a letter requesting Barr's appearance before the committee, Judiciary Democrats listed a set of "significant concerns" on which they planned to grill him, all occurring within the past week.
Those include Barr installing a loyalist as the U.S. attorney in D.C. now handling the cases of former national security adviser and Trump campaign aide Mike Flynn, Trump bestie Roger Stone, former FBI Director James Comey, and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe; the new process by which Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani (who's under investigation) is directly feeding information to the department about Trump's political rivals; and Barr's recent decision to overrule the sentencing recommendations of career line attorneys at the Justice Department in the case of Stone, a Trump longtime confidant.
Unfortunately, none of this is happening until March 31—who knows what other kinds of havoc Barr can wreak on the rule of law between now and then?
Here’s the letter.
