Pete has really busted through a lot of expectations with his performance so far in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Truth be told, Iowa, based on it’s demographics, should have been a snap for someone like Biden. And yet he came in near last. New Hampshire should have been a walk in the park for Bernie, and yet he won by a hair, and Pete still got just as many delegates as he did.
And it got me REALLY thinking about Pete. I have gone back and watched numerous appearances of him, watched some of his speeches, and I am thinking I might have been wrong about him
Maybe Pete not only has a good chance of securing the nomination, but may also be the BEST chance to defeat the orange POS.
Ideologically, Pete seems to be a good middle ground between the more moderate wing, which includes Biden and Klobuchar, and the more leftist wing, which includes Sanders and Warren. I think he could successfully pull in both of the major coalitions that make up the Democratic Party, yet also have a good amount of appeal to independents and centrists. A selling point for many moderates is that Pete supports M4A or a public option for people WHO WANT IT. Those that don’t, can keep their private insurance or employer coverage. This has become a major litmus test for a lot of voters, and I think Pete, like Amy, supports a good middle ground that can appeal to all Dem voters.
His sexuality is not an issue in this day and age. Anyone who would never vote for a homosexual is NOT gonna vote for ANY Democrat, no matter who it is, so there are no lost votes there. The more moderate and right of center Republicans who are sick of the orange shitpile, I don’t think would be put off by that if they want him out either. In fact, his proud, patriotic military service would help draw them in more than I think any of the other candidates could, and that is exasperated by the fact that the orange shitpile is a cowardly draft dodger.
Really, his only red mark is a lack of experience. Yes, being a mayor is executive experience, but it is still just mayor. Granted, I say that knowing full well that the orange shitpile was not only woefully inexperienced, but criminally ignorant and dumb about how government and Democracy works. Pete is infinitly more qualified than the orange shitpile ever was, so that red mark ultimately has little meaning.
There is one single qualification Democrats need to keep at #1 when it comes to this election; ELECTABILITY! Who has the GREATEST CHANCE of beating the orange shitpile. For the longest time, I have kept my support behind Biden because I believed that he had the greatest chance of beating the orange shitpile. Sadly, that is not the case anymore. The orange shitpile, and all his sick little sycophants and enablers have successfully latched about 100 tons of baggage and stink on Biden, and it is showing in the polls. Yes, the baggage and stink is all total bullshit, but it it still on him now, and it is dragging his numbers way down.
Mayor Pete also has a low level of “immunity” on him from stink. While the orange shitpile is shameless enough to viciously try to smear a brave war veteran like Pete, there are still pockets of republicans who will be downright appalled by that; perhaps enough to help tip the vote into Pete’s favor.
Plus, I will admit a small selfish motivation too for wanting Pete to be the nominee; it will drive the degenerate, bigoted filth of our country CRAZY! It will make the rotten evangelicals heads EXPLODE! Much in the same way I enjoyed watching the racist trash lose their shit when a black man was elected President.
Look, I can be totally 100% wrong. But I feel in my heart, after a lot of contemplating, that Pete is our best shot at the moment. As a Californian, our primary is fast approaching (March 3rd), and in fact I have already received my mail-in ballot. I am gonna give it a few more days of heavy thinking and soul searching, but as of now, I will be marking Pete on my ballot.
If Pete doesn’t win the nomination however, I WILL be voting for whatever Democrat it is!
EDIT: Thank you for all comments. I only just now realized that I didn’t also give my two cents on Pete’s VP.
Personally, I think the one person who would pair beautifully with Pete is Stacy Abrams. She would solidify Pete’s ability to pull in the more liberal wing of the Democratic party. They would create a ticket that personifies why we are proud Democrats; diversity and inclusion.
