I cannot point to anything in particular that says who can win and who cannot. There are media pundits, and polls, and media pundits, and people you know, and people you don’t know. I never imagined Trump could actually win, but media was actually helping him along in hindsight, and even I couldn’t stand Clinton, while voting for her.
I supported Bernie Sanders in 2016, and I supported him with real dollars that I had back then. I have none now. I was never a Clinton supporter, and that happened long before 2016, goes back to 2008, and even goes back longer than that. The name Clinton in my household was said with scorn, and that goes back to 1992.
Back in 2016, I knew Hillary Clinton wouldn’t win. I could feel it, and I could see it locally. There wasn’t one damned Clinton supporter in my community floating her sign. Yes, anecdotal, and I live in a rural/exurban community that had way more Obama signs and bumper stickers than you might imagine in 2008. Obama won Florida that year, and again in 2012. Clinton did not in 2016. As an aside, I did see Bernie bumper stickers in my community in 2016. I see none in 2020, even outside of my community.
Would I love a Bernie Sanders win as President of the USA? Yes. But my years of paying attention, reading, and reading, and understanding history, tells me his electability is questionable. Media detests him, people I know are afraid of the “socialist” label, even while I tell them he isn’t a “socialist” such as those most of them grew up with in Cuba or in various countries in South America.
Then again, there is the thought that even in the unlikely event Sanders could win the Presidency, he will never get his plans and ideas and ideals passed by any Congress, House or Senate. Obama couldn’t get it done even with Obamacare with a Congress of both houses that favored him, with his thought of a public option. We may need a bigger change in Congress, but that is another topic.
Bloomberg has a lot of past, some of it negative; but yes, I am older. I understand that men like him said things and believed things that are detestable. I know this because I worked for men who did things worse than just “say” things. It was the times. It that acceptable? No. Did he grow as a result, and it appears he did. Imperfection and growth that overcomes that, comes with age, something that many who are young might not understand.
His ideals are still not the same as mine. He is much too conservative. His ideas may still be too “old”. But again, I suggest, I cannot deal with 4 more years of Trump, and our country cannot either. I want to vote for a person that I think can beat Trump, and in my humble opinion, at this time, Bloomberg is the only one who can do it.
I still have another month before I make my final decision of voting in the primary. I made sure that some nefarious deed had not removed me from the voting rolls. I would love to vote for Bernie, and for now I am voting for Bloomberg. Time changes day to day. I never vote early, and always vote on election day.
Whatever ends up happening, and whomever is our nominee, I will support that nominee.
Trump needs to go. There is no ifs ands or buts about it!
