While the title is specifically referencing what some people are saying about Warren, it is applicable to all of the candidates.
Why is trying to guess how other people are going to vote in the primary bad? Because it can remove a potentially awesome candidate:
(Sometimes, you think of a good point afterwards) Something we all have to worry about is disinformation from Republicans and the Russians. We can be highly susceptible to the idea that our candidate cannot win because WE DO NOT WANT TO LOSE IN NOVEMBER. We must be wary of this.
I find the idea of trying to vote for someone in the primary because they might be electable to be ludicrous. If you choose to not vote for your favorite candidate just because no one might, then you’ve helped defeat that person. It’s just as bad as voting for someone just because you want to say you voted for the winner. Neither way is a good way to pick a candidate.
Instead, you need to do your homework, and then vote for the person you would like to see as president. Part of your homework at this stage can include:
- Will the person inspire people to vote?
- Will the person help downstream candidates get elected?
- Do they understand that this election is bigger than the first woman winning, or the first socialist, or the first gay, or the first national uncle, that there are people’s lives actually on the line?
- Will the person prosecute the actions of the Trump administration and go after those in various agencies that enabled Trump?
OK, the last one is one of the things I’m really looking at.
Voting for your favorite candidate lets them, and the party know what you value. And, if your candidate doesn’t win, then hopefully the candidate that does win will hear what you had to say with your vote.
And after you’ve voted in the primary, and everyone know know has voted, then we all start working on getting a Democrat as president, all of the elected Senators as Democrat, keeping and growing the majority in the House, and replacing any Republican state and local reps with Democrats. Here in Texas, if we turn out enough, we might flip the state House. That would be awesome.
