This clip is Michael Bloomberg’s take on the 2013 budget sequestration debate when the Obama administration reached a “deal” with a Republican-controlled Congress to raise the debt-ceiling by putting in place the Catfood Commission with an automatic budget sequestration if the Commission couldn’t reach an agreement on just how much Catfood our seniors should be eating. It was one of those manufactured crises that apparently only Republicans can pull off because I’ve sadly yet to see Democrats attempt the same thing while trying to increase federal spending.
In the clip, Mr. Democrat makes clear that he opposes the automatic sequestration of federal spending because he prefers “intelligent cuts”. What intelligent cuts would Mr. Democrat like to make? Let’s review the transcript:
Now let’s talk about intelligent cuts rather than the sequestering thing which would devastate defense. There is a way to slowly decrease the benefits or raise the eligibility age for Medicare and Social Security. There is a way to have more co-pay on Medicaid which will do two things. One, the users of the service would pay a little more, but two, they’ll think twice before they use services, so the services they use will be the services they really needed and not stuff that would be nice to have.
So, Bloomberg wants to cut Medicare and Social Security benefits (slowly, so we don’t notice) and increase the eligibility age because doing so would be smarter than cutting our bloated and wasteful defense budget. He also wants to increase co-pays for Medicaid because poor people on Medicaid are really using TOO MANY services. It should definitely be HARDER FOR POOR PEOPLE TO GET MEDICAL CARE!
For fear of offending Mr. Bloomberg and his enormous wealth, let me just say, what an absolute asshole. The casual way with which he dismisses poor people for actually using Medicaid sounds just like the way Reagan used to casually denigrate welfare moms.
And, to answer the inevitable dumb-ass question about whether I will support him as our nominee, I WON’T HAVE TO BECAUSE WE WILL ALL WAKE UP FROM OUR COLLECTIVE DELUSION AND VOTE FOR SOMEONE ELSE!
