A friend of mine spent last weekend doing something he does periodically… a structured hyper-burst of creativity, in his case musical, and that got me thinking about how we all can do similar things. Grab a beverage and hop below the Story Break!
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
So my friend mentioned he was planning an Immersion Composition Society weekend. Basically, he and another musician were going to spend Saturday [separately] composing new songs, then fleshing them out on Sunday with the goal of having ~10 song demos done by night. They didn’t have to be GOOD songs, or thematically linked, or anything. Just songs. To me it sounded like stream of consciousness composing and letting the notes and lyrics go where they may. I am NOT a composer and so it all sounded pressured/stressful, but… late Sunday night he posted a link to 7 completed demos. And they do not suck.
I wondered if this had similarities to NaNoWriMo, where every November a community of writers work towards the goal of writing 50000 words towards a novel. While longer and more structured, it is an intense creative burst spurred by meeting a Goal.
In that way the Universe has, as I was settling in to write tonight, another friend called and I told him what my topic likely was. And he shared that at his school they had a 24-Hour Theatre Company. At 7pm Friday night, writers gathered and spent 12 hours churning out monologues, skits, and more. At 7am producers arrive, and chose what they wanted to work with from everything the writers created. At 9am the actors showed up and were cast, and at 7pm the curtain went up on what essentially was a theater variety show.
I was about to say I never have bouts of creativity like that, when I realized: periodically I go into a frenzy of cooking. Multiple new recipes, pots and pans and spatulas flying everywhere and a bunch of new foods to taste at the end. I think that qualifies!
So, do you ever go into creative periods like these? Bursts of art, or music, or words? Food or garden planning or something else? Please share in the comments!! BeninSC has created a trio of Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures for you to enjoy tonight!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers, Barack Obama or DailyKos. From Eyesbright:
(Ed. note: Top Comments usually does not publish comments from a tr0ll thread, but tonight we’re happily making an exception.) This comment is simple but struck me as a fine example of a truism. I suspect others will also wear the ironic grin I had after I read it.
From Calvin Partigiani (immensely better if you first read the troll comment he's replying to)
In Leslie Salzillo's excellent diary "Documentarian Ken Burns warned Trump's rise would be 'Hitler-esque'—here's what else he said"
Highlighted by Slideman:
Is this comment by chloris creator, simply quoting from the diary, but worth the read!
Highlighted by Janesaunt:
Is this comment by WYgalinCali, with a marvelous video in a tweet, the kind to drive IMPotus batty! (That’s no long trip!)
