So I have been feeling the same angst that has been going around Democratic circles of late. Is Bernie too progressive? Eek! Is Biden too centrist? Oh, Lord. Are they both too old? Maybe? Why is Warren flailing? How dare Bloomberg? What about Pete? Maybe Amy is the answer? Steyers is still solvent and sane! What if we are too fractured and people stay home?
How will we survive another four years of this lawlessness? Few of us believe our nation will — this president must be stopped. But...we’re all over the place!
My candidate of choice dropped out before Christmas. I mourned her passing. But I myself had warned others on this site not to fall in love with their candidates, because there were so many good ones, it was inevitable that many of us would be disappointed. That was a tough spoonful of medicine to take, but what choice did I have?
I’ve been laying low since then, watching, waiting, and working on down-ballot races and taking back the Senate, figuring I will support the eventual nominee whole-heartedly once chosen. I’m still good with that, but all this despair and angst is contagious.
I actually think we’ve done a pretty good job at not getting too vicious with the infighting — but it is time to be careful.
Nothing succeeds like success, and nothing divides like division. As long as we are discussing issues and facts, we have the advantage. The minute we turn our rage and resistance on one another, we will have given that advantage over to the true enemy.
Anyway, last night my son texted me this quiz that he’s been using for several years. 2020 Presidential Quiz isidewith.com and my SO and I took it. My husband was excited that who he thought he wanted was in his top 3, and that his top 3 were in his top 5. I saw the same thing, but what I realized next was a welcome surprise:
I am in agreement with 5 of the candidates on 89% or more of the issues!
What does that mean? That means that no matter who among them wins, I am in good hands!
As an interesting side note, my son asked us to examine the bottom of our lists.
It wasn’t what I expected, to find Biden below Tulsi (yuk) and Bloomberg. But all of them were 70-80% higher than the current occupant.
My son is of a different generation, with a few positions that we don’t see eye-to-eye on, and he only agreed with the bulk of the candidates 68-75% of the time, but 7% with Trump, so it is still a very easy choice for him.
I suspect most of us will have similar results. Which is encouraging! We are on the same side! We really cannot lose!!!
Unless we forget that we are a team.
Perspective is everything, people!
Get out there and vote!
Be excited!
