When the history of America is written hundreds of years from now, I think Adam Schiff’s impeachment oratory will rank in the top ten. I know everyone is already aware of this work (see the thank you link at the top of DKos), but this tweet I ran across really made me think about the magnitude of his efforts. Imagine you were tasked with a prosecution where the jury already decided ahead of time that you would lose. It would be easy to mail it in or just be an angry presence. But he was so methodical and in control throughout that there was no question as to guilt.
And the oratory was stunning. I have lived more than 50 years and it was probably the best performance I have ever seen (in sports, entertainment, etc.): Brilliance, composure, cadence, inflection — a true masterpiece. I predict American history will record it alongside the Gettysburg Address.
Then, the big finish — as Mitt Romney voted to convict! The first senator in history to vote for impeachment of a president of her/his own party. This was truly a superhero performance by Adam Schiff. They say Americans like the underdog — how can you not be stunned by this against all odds performance?
Thanks Captain America!
