It is time.
Senator Sanders has proven beyond doubt that he is the leader of the progressive movement. He has built equity in this race as well. 2 segments stand out — the young voters & the Latino voters. Obama’s young coalition is well into their early 30s.
I don’t think that the next set of young voters — those who grew up in the era of 9/11 and the Great Recession look up to President Obama as much as they look up to Sen Sanders. Latino voters are wary of the Obama admin & Joe Biden for their deportation policies.
For the Dems to make an impact in 2021 & beyond and hopefully, the party wins the General Election and regains Senate while retaining the House. The voters ain’t going to show patience if the Dems come up with excuses for policy or procedure failures, if we win the trifecta.
That’s where Senator Sanders comes in. He has the power to push the overton window beyond Center-Left. For him to get that power to set some progressive goals, he has to encash his check in the next few days.
I think Senator Sanders will do well to negotiate an UNITY platform with VP Biden in short order; get policy wins as well as gain concessions for progressive leaders in a potential Biden administration (may be, a say in VP selection). All Senator Sanders will do is to create a backlash in the party if he pushes to next week & beyond given that there isn’t a viable path for him.
So, a humble request, Senator Sanders — Weigh in today’s result; forsee what’s coming & prioritize policy wins over personal ones & push for a UNITY platform with VP Biden
