Sophie Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, returned from London the other day after a speaking engagement, and on Wednesday night, March 11, started to exhibit a mild fever and cough. Thursday morning, March 12, Trudeau made this public and announced he was going into self-isolation as a precaution.
Well, on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister’s Office announced she’d tested positive for COVID-19, and still had mild symptoms. Trudeau himself is remaining in self-isolation for the recommended 14 days but isn’t being tested at the moment (on doctor’s advice) because he’s not showing any symptoms. This may seem silly, but makes sense as he’s already in isolation so it doesn’t matter whether he’s tested or not at the moment, and he’s following the current protocol being used.

Now, several things of note here;
1. Sophie was probably exposed in the UK. So, how’s that gaping hole in the Trump travel ban looking now?
2. The turnaround in Canada for test results in the urban areas of the country is less than a day; Ontario, provincially, has it down to 6 hours from sample delivery to the lab.
3. A national leader providing information. Novel, ain’t it?
4. Trudeau isn’t being treated any differently than another Canadian citizen (in terms of testing protocols) would be in similar circumstances.
