The mayo Clinic is, as usual, leading the way in testing for Americans. Please copy out the URL to the MAYO Clinic HERE and send to your regional health authorities or Department of health to REPRODUCE ...
‘ Mayo Clinic has developed a test that can detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus in clinical samples. The SARS-CoV virus causes COVID-19. The test has been fully validated, and data will be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration for review and emergency use authorization.
"This is an issue the whole world is grappling with, so we felt like this was our moral obligation to offer testing to as many people as we can," says Dr. Matthew Binnicker, a clinical microbiologist and director of the Clinical Virology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic.’
Dr. Binnicker oversees Mayo Clinic's laboratory response in developing the test to detect COVID-19 in clinical samples. A process that usually takes six months to a year was accomplished in under a month, thanks to a dedicated team working around the clock.
The test should help ease the burden currently being felt at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state health labs.
"Our plan is to offer this test to anyone here at Mayo and around the country, and even from patients seen in other countries," says Dr. Binnicker. That will also mean faster turnaround times for results.
"Once the sample arrives in our laboratory, the whole process from beginning to end takes somewhere between four to six hours." Patients can expect results within 24 hours of when samples are collected and sent to Mayo Clinic Laboratories in Rochester, Minnesota.
"We need to get those results to our physicians and physicians around the country so that they can make those rapid patient management decisions," explains Dr. Binnicker. "Information is power. If you have the results of the test, you can decide whether the patient has the disease or not, and then you can take steps to make decisions from there."
Initially, Dr. Binnicker says the laboratory has the capacity to run between 200 and 300 tests daily. Additional equipment has been ordered to double that capacity in the coming weeks.
All positive samples will be sent to the Minnesota Department of Health or CDC for appropriate follow-up testing and confirmation. Then test results will be communicated with public health officials, per department of health guidelines.

‘Mayo Clinic is conducting a drive-through process in Rochester to collect COVID-19 specimens for testing. Transmission of the coronavirus is increasing nationwide, and other institutions have successfully used the drive-through approach.
Patients who meet criteria for testing are directed to the location. Mayo Clinic staff collect the specimens, using appropriate precautions, and send them to the Minnesota Department of Health for analysis. This process reduces the need for other critically constrained resources.
Patients are required to have a phone screening first to determine if testing is appropriate. If approved, patients then will be directed to the drive-through location. There is no additional charge for the drive-through service.’
South Korea, Australia and Germany have drive-thru coronavirus testing. C’MON America!!

Drive thru testing is the best method because:
- It keeps the medical profession safer as those handling the specimens
will be should be in the limited proper protective gear when facing the sickest of patients.
- It means those who are sick will not be making other people sick. Getting both the flu or pneumonia and the coronavirus will make it more dicfficult (and for some impossible) for you and your immune system to cope.
- They are (or should be) or were meant to be) faster and safer. I fear that leaders and the health care authorities are suffering from MORONavirus … see below…
Colorado has a drive-thru as well. A doctor’s order is needed for testing. That means you are putting your Doc, their staff and others who are not sick in danger. (see… why drive thru’s are better above… SHEESH!! ) It isn't working, so instead of figuring out why not, they turned people away and made the 4 hour window for testing a 2 hour window. WTF AMERICA!?!?!?
Colorado has been told 1,500 additional kits are en route from the CDC. The state hasn’t said when it expects those kits to arrive.
ALSO
"The first 100-150 vehicles in the queue will have access to the drive-up testing; all other vehicles that arrive after that will be encouraged to seek testing from a private provider. Always call ahead and speak with the health care facility in advance before going there for testing or treatment," the CDPHE said.
New York has a drive-thru test facility. You need to make an appointment first
The drive-thru test site is capable of testing up to 200 people a day at the moment and will eventually be able to test 500 a day, Cuomo said. Patients must make an appointment first; priority is given to New Rochelle residents but is open to anyone living in Westchester. People with underlying conditions or those who are elderly are considered more vulnerable populations and will get appointments first.
Colorado, Washington, California, Utah, Minnesota, Delaware and Indiana, have implemented their own drive-thru test sites this week. You need to call ahead. It seems they are all needing prior Doc to arrival .
This is why you hire people skilled at implementing and maintaining thoughtful and co-ordinated crisis management, FFS. Now you know why FEMA has also become ineffectual. What an f’ing clown show.
