As most of us here have come to know, one method we can implement to help try to limit the spread of the coronavirus is social distancing, in other words, staying out of big crowds. Turns out that doing so is really, really hard when you’re flying back into the United States in response to President Trump declaring a ban on US-Europe air travel.
The governor of Illinois is infuriated:
The problem isn’t just with O’Hare though. Here’s the scene in Texas:
Of course, how can we expect Americans to respect the need for social distancing now when we have people like the Governor of Oklahoma bragging about not doing so (and I disagree with Frum, this behavior from Governor Stitt seems very foolish):
There are a lot of Americans who are ignoring the need for social distancing. From a member of the NYC city council:
To recap: Trump ordered travel between the US and Europe be banned, and the implementation to be sudden. People, scared they wouldn’t be able to get home, have now come home all at the same time to meed Trump’s travel ban deadline. But the ban seems to have been made with little-to-no thought about the logistics of the whole thing. Supposedly to process coronavirus screenings of those coming into these airports, the process is resulting in hours and hours of waiting in close proximity to others and without access to sanitizer. So, this is yet another terribly managed process due to Trump’s inability to plan or lead or do the job of an executive.
Also, many people are still not taking this seriously, going out into large party crowds, even in locations that are expected to see dramatic increases in the number of sick people in the coming weeks.
I have such little confidence in our government and our society right now.
