In case anyone still doubts Covid-19 doesn’t care how old you are in causing life-threatening pulmonary disease, read this. While it’s frightening to contemplate that children are now proven to be among those who can become infected and symptomatic, her condition is not listed as grave now that she is on a respirator. The hope is that her condition will improve and she’ll soon be back on her feet, cured.
In the meantime, in the absence of sufficient PPEs for medical personnel, and in acknowledgment that Americans are looking for relief from cabin fever already and in the coming days, one Georgia health care provider system is taking action and including volunteers in the community to manufacture medical masks. Albany Medical Group has produced an online template for use by anyone who desires to make and donate medical masks in an effort to combat infection by coronavirus. While the medical group hopes you’ll donate your products to them; why not make them for needy health care facilities and doctors’ offices in your neighborhood as well?

It seems like a good idea to contact a local hospital in your neck of the woods, before starting to advise them of your ability to help in this way. Be sure to offer them the link to the specs you will be using, and inform them of your desire to DONATE the items. This is a perfect project for charitable groups, church guilds, and community service clubs. Also the auxillary membership of the hospital. In addition, the following will help them decide to accept your offer
The masks may be worn alone or over an N95 for isolation precautions to extend N95 use when appropriate during a severe shortage of available PPE. Intended for reuse after laundering. If N95 is visibly soiled, it must be discarded.
Why not call your local hospital anyway to inquire what kind of donations would be most helpful in the cause. Find out if the hospital’s laboratory blood bank takes direct donations and make an appointment. Blood donations may also be collected at county public health departments, and of course, the Red Cross.
And feel free to share this diary, or some of its contents with everyone in your contact list.
