By now many of us have gotten the Trump Postcard or are at least familiar with it. When I was looking for more information on it a few days ago I came across this item which seems to be the source material from which the postcard was drawn. If you look at the front of these two items side by side you can see that there have been a few edits made...
As you can see in the original the focus of the material was on slowing the spread and providing specific guidance on what people could do that to help accomplish that.
As you can also see in the process of turning this into a mass mailing paid for with our taxpayer dollars all of that information was changed into a tiny font on the back of the card in order to make space for the aggrandizement of DJT’s role in the response.
Whether that is deserved or not there is simply no legitimate policy reason to make those edits other than helping the effort to reelect Donald Trump. I would argue that whoever made and/or approved these changes at least violated the Hatch Act and depending on the decision making process around the change perhaps more.
Also worth noting that while the CDC presentation was in fact created late in the day on March 16th the postcard probably was not. Has anyone seen a pdf or other version of the postcard that wasn’t produced by scanning a physical copy of it?
