What we need to do as the covid-19 crisis clears is build on our carbon savings, and start back up in a smart way instead of doing things the “old school” way. There will be a surge in productivity with the lessening of restrictions. We are already starting to see that in China. Start planning your comeback now. I have been avoiding politics lately, for reasons that I will not discuss, but I consider this message fairly apolitical.
What we need to do as a group is to demand that restarting be done in a sustainable and smart way. There will be the opportunity for teachers to get paid more. The unions need to speak up. If you need to study more to teach better online, this is the time to learn and practice that. I suspect that for many, distance learning was a new and difficult transition. For others, it was already part of the mix.
Hybrid classes at the colleges already employ a mix of in class and distance learning. Teaching class online is still a good idea, and we need to incorporate that more now that we have jump started the process.
There will also be the opportunity to use cleaner resources as we become more industrialized again. Where industry is dirty or carbon intensive, this is our opportunity to suggest alternatives, and give them a chance to thrive.
My two cents.
