The governors of California, Oregon and Washington announced today that they have formed a consortium to address the issue of how best to handle COVID-19, particularly with regard to the crucial question of when to “re-open” the economy.
Not surprisingly, and in keeping with long-standing principles of sound governance, the governors, in a joint statement, said,
Health outcomes and science – not politics – will guide these decisions. . . This effort will be guided by data. We need to see a decline in the rate of spread of the virus before large-scale reopening, and we will be working in coordination to identify the best metrics to guide this.
When citing “best metrics,” none of the governors pointed to their own head.
